a sick baby..

Today, we are spending a lot of time in front of the TV on the couch. This week Kinsley Anne has gotten increasingly hoarse & congested. When she cries, it's just this puny half-hearted whine. Thursday I took her to the doctor, knowing she'd been exposed to RSV over Christmas. The doctor that we had to see (there's lots of docs in the practice) didn't want to test her for RSV since "there's nothing you can do about a virus." He wanted me to watch her respiratory rate, temp, etc. If she was getting worse, I was told to call him because he was the on-call doctor all weekend & had office hours this weekend, too. Yesterday, I found out that a child in her daycare class (she just started daycare Monday) was also diagnosed with RSV. This morning, she was warm & her temp was 99.0 axillary. Generally, you add a degree, which of course makes 100.0. I called the doctor's office. He called me back & said to try Tylenol if she seemed uncomfortable, saline drops & bulb syringe (which I had already done), and Little Noses Decongestant. I went ahead and gave her Tylenol and she ate ~3oz (less than a normal amt). Over the next 1.5 hrs, she seemed to be getting sweatier. I took her temp and it was up to 100.3 axillary....101.3. I was getting a little nervous but she woke up and ate ~3 oz again. Kyle went to buy some of the decongestant drops & I just gave her those ~30 min ago. She seems a little cooler to the touch at the moment, so let's hope that the sweating was a result of her fever breaking. She still just wants to be cuddled in a blanket, though. She is breathing ~69 times/minute (yes, I do know that's fast..but she's not retracting her chest wall or flaring her nostrils). She has only had 1 wet diaper so far today & she needs to have 3 per 24hrs or else we have to take her to the ER for dehydration. Let's hope that's not the case. Please say a few prayers to get us through this little bug. I'm not sure where she picked it up from but with daycare, sick family members, and lots of viruses going around in the general public, there's absolutely no telling. All I do know is that my little girl is pitiful and I want her better now. Yes, I know..I need prayers for my patience, as well.

Until Next Time..
Love, Jen
