What I'm Loving Wednesday

This past week has been quite the whirlwind! Kinsley Anne & I went to Raleigh/Durham this past weekend for a bar & bat mitzvah. Kyle had to stay back to attend his work's huge Christmas party. We all had a great time at our respective events. It was amazing for me (& KA) to see so much of my dad's family!! I really didn't want the weekend to end. BUT, with that being said, it's already Wednesday which means it's time to say what I'm lovin....

{1} today's my last work day for a week!!!!!! Yay x 1 million.

{2} more time with family during Christmas!

{3} my work gifts came out awesome! Thank you pinterest.

{4} Kinsley Anne's tubes are working. She has her first ear infection since surgery. Yucky!! Her ear looks nasty but at least she's not in so much pain because they're draining out!!

{5} we went to Hollywild last night. It's a local zoo that does lights in a unique way. They also have an open field of deer, Holstein cows, zebras, zadonkeys, horses, etc that come up to your car & you can feed them. Kinsley Anne LOVED it!!!! She also got her picture with Santa. Not so much a fan.

{6} that I haven't allowed myself to stress at all this Christmas season. I have tried to soak in the meaning of the season & just enjoy it.

What are you lovin' today? Head over to jamie's and let us know!!

Until Next Time...

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Wednesday Already? YAY! Head over to Jamie's blog & join us for....

{1} My family...far & wide. I get to see lots of them this weekend & again next week. SOO exciting!!!!

{2} These pictures that I snapped on my iphone. Just another example of God's artistic talents...

sunset on the way home
another sunset one night on the way home

gorgeous sunrise this morning on the way to work
Kinsley Anne & I spend lots of time in the morning saying "ohh & ahh"

{3} That the dogs (and Kinsley Anne) new found love is bubbles. The dogs "eat" the bubbles or lick them until they pop. Kinsley squeals at them and giggles at the dogs. It's really entertaining. I have videos but can't figure out how to get quicktime videos from my iphone to work on my phone. any ideas?

{4} this silly girl & her antics. She is into shoes & will pick them up whenever she sees them. She tries to say "shoes" & carries them around the house.
{5} That I am enrolled in a "pregnancy & IBD" registry through UNC. This means that I am part of a research study as a part of UNC-Chapel Hill for women that have Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's, taking an immune system modulator medication (a medicine that suppresses your immune system), that are or were pregnant. They were planning to follow the child until they were 2 years old. The great news is that I just had the 1 year old "checkup" from them & they have extended the study until the child is 4 years old. This is fabulous, because the more information, the better. Currently, there is no good research on the medicine that I'm on and its effects on pregnancy & the baby. I am very curious to discuss their findings prior to my next pregnancy!!!!

What are you loving today?

Until Next Time..

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Welcome yall! I promise, my blog will not permanently be a "What I'm Lovin' Wednesday" blog. Even though I do love Jamie's blog hop, that is not the sole purpose of my blog. However, that is all I have had/made the time & energy for lately & I apologize to you for that.

Without further ado, here is what I'm loving today..

{1} My husband & how he forever deals with my crazy antics.

{2} My sweet Kinsley Anne. She is at such a fun age. I feel like I have said that for a while now, but every day it is something new. I swear sometimes, she says something & I look up thinking "did I really hear her just say a sentence?!" but I don't quite know what she's saying yet. It will come I'm sure. And when that day comes, my husband and I have decided that she will be one that won't shut up from that day forward. HA!

after some serious holiday fair shopping with mama & aunt katy duck!

{3} these handmade slippers that a coworker of mine, Sherry, made. How stinkin' cute are they?! Onto Pinterest they go....

{4} that Kinsley Anne loves her sleep as much as I do. She was playing at Kyle's parents house the other night & she was getting noticeably tired. I said, "lay down Kinsley Anne!" And she tried to lay on her head....

{5} that our house looks like a Christmas wonderland! we have done our tree in more of a rustic style this year with lots of jingle bells (unbreakable for small hands) & other kid-friendly ornaments. We strung lots of extra lights on the tree for her because every time she sees Christmas lights (at home, at the store, etc) she says "Ohhhh" like she's ohh-ing and ahh-ing. We also strung up lights outside the house & we put up 2 additional trees. One tabletop tree in her room & 1 6.5 foot tree outside her room (again with the jingle bells & lights).

Also, don't forget to thank a vet. Today marks 70 years from Pearl Harbor.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Wednesday, we meet again! I have been MIA for the greater part of the last month or more. Man, where did November go?!

Today, I have lots to be loving.

{1} Family (including Kyle's). All of them. What would I do without them?!

{2} That it's officially the Christmas season!

K's gingerbread outfit was a birthday gift from her cousin Kade! SO cute!!

pants are from Pink Pineapple Designs. awesome.
K's Thanksgiving pants were also from her.

{3} That I saw the most beautiful rainbow this week on the way to work. There was no sun, just rain. So, I'm not sure why there was a rainbow, but I told Kinsley Anne how magnificent they were & we took time to soak it in (no pun intended) as we drove to school/work.

{4} Kinsley Anne has gotten such great reports from the doctors recently. You can really tell that she is feeling good & that makes a mama's heart smile.

{5} these adorable finds for K

via {they light up!}

via {dr seuss chuck taylors!}

I hope that everyone is having fun decorating for Christmas. Don't forget to take time to be "thankful" even though Thanksgiving is over! Head over to Jamie's blog & join in WILW!

It is a rainy day, but I am thankful for many things that outweigh the dreariness of the rain. Here is a list of what I'm loving today.

i promise her boots aren't that big. it's just the angle. ha!

{3} My brother in law, Clay, won the Himelright award at the Citadel. We are SO proud of him!!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday! It has been a LONG week!

I am loving that..

{1} we didn't go to the doctor yesterday! see our most recent adventures here.

{2} my sweet baby girl is hopefully on the upswing & i LOVE to see her smile! she has some splotchy rash on her face & a fine viral rash on her body...let's hope this all clears up soon. The poor thing can't have motrin because of her surgery so we're stuck with tylenol which doesn't seem to do a whole lot!

{3} my husband's hard work is paying off. he started a new position at work this week & i LOVE to see him happy!!

{4} these pretty lil uggs. i've never owned a pair & truthfully never felt the urge too, until I saw these..

{5} this Land of Nod storagepalooza item. may have to be a Christmas snag for Kinsley Anne...

{6} i am still obsessed with this beauty of a watch..
{7} and I am also loving these right hand bands, but I'd love to find one with some small touches of champagne diamonds in it.

What are you loving today? Join the fun over here @ Jamie's blog!

Until Next Time..

An Unexpected Week & Weekend

So Kinsley Anne has a way of keeping us on our toes! She has had a rough year with her health. She has had numerous bouts of bronchiolitis, pneumonia, sinusy type stuff, allergies, & ear infections. Her first ear infection was the last weekend in July & she has had at least 5 since. Anyway, I had a long discussion with the pediatrician a couple of weeks ago about what the next step should be. She is on Advair daily, Xopenex as needed, Zyrtec daily, and benedryl daily. We talked about the option of going to see an allergist and also about the option of seeing an ENT. We decided to start at the ENT. We went Monday morning (and we had already seen him when she was 4-5 months old for feeding problems due to her nasal congestion). He had scoped her to make sure that her nasal passages were normal size given her other respiratory anomalies (which they were).

At her ENT visit on Monday, it was quickly decided that she met criteria to have tubes placed & her adenoids also needed to be taken out. The surgery would be scheduled for this past Wednesday {commence mama bear panic}. This is one of those times when knowing too much information is not a good thing. I hear all of the horror stories of general anesthesia & intubation & I was just worried sick over what might go wrong. I couldn't fathom handing over my sweet little angel to people I hardly knew to dose medications that her life depended on. But I would have to {commence prayers}.

Because of her lung problems, we were scheduled for an overnight admission following the surgery & we were all less than thrilled about this. However, anything to keep our girl safe & out of harm's way was fine with us. I had already discussed my concerns about her fear of anything medical with the child life specialist team. We arrived at the hospital at 830am. Her last meal was at 9pm the night prior, so needless to say, she was hungry. We all took one for the team & skipped out on breakfast for her sake. We didn't want her to see us with food or drink. We were greeted by a team of people who were such special people. They made us smile & forget our worries for a moment. They asked a bazillion questions, we met her anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, the nurse took her vitals during lots of bubble blowing by the child life specialist, and finally when she decided she was hungry and nothing we did was going to satisfy that, they gave her some oral Versed & tylenol. She was waving at everything, including the cartoon characters on TV moments later. It warmed this nervous mommy's heart to see her not care anymore {I know, it sounds weird, but I am over seeing her anxious}...

We got our gowns on & her gown on & walked her back {early!!!} and met with her OR nurses who took down my cell phone number. We handed her over to the anesthesiology team (the hardest thing I've done since leaving her in the NICU to go home) and went to the waiting room. The OR nurse called me to let me know when she was asleep (which was within seconds of being there) and then before we knew it, the ENT came out to talk to us. He was glowing with a good report of how well our sweet girl had done. She had an active ear infection & sinus infection and her adenoids were "coated" with stuff. He took a culture of the stuff in her sinuses to make sure he put her on the right antibiotic. Then, minutes later, we were being paged to come back to recovery. She was so pitiful in the recovery room, just wanting to cuddle with her mama. Luckily, they are very nice to babies & we had a private recovery room, complete with rocking chair. So, we just cuddled and rocked until she was ready to peek open those eyes of hers. Once she opened her eyes, they gave her some sugar water in a bottle & she sucked down THREE of them. That's when the good news came. The ENT & anesthesiologist came and signed off on Kinsley Anne to be discharged!!! That's right, to go home! The nurse was totally thrown for a loop. He kept saying, "but she has a room upstairs." And the doctor said, "but I am going to write discharge orders." I kept thinking, this isn't too tough. Cancel the room, we have one for her at home.....duh. But this mom kept her thoughts to herself.

Anyway, we came home and she slept alllll day long. She was back to normal the next day, thankfully. She only required one dose of Tylenol Thursday.

Then Friday hit. She was lethargic, not wanting to do anything. She wanted to lay down all day and she started running a low grade temp. Post-surgical was our first thought. She does have an ear infection, we told ourselves...even though she's almost never run a fever with one before. Then we told ourselves it was teething..after all she did just cut her 5th tooth. But as the day went on, she breathed harder and she seemed more out of it. We just kept giving her Tylenol every 4 hours & I talked to her pediatrician at lunch (we work in the same building and we ran into each other buying our lunch) and she recommended a breathing treatment, so we did that too. She perked up some with that. She was already on antibiotics, after all, so there wasn't much else they would do, right?! Then, Saturday...oh, Saturday, I wouldn't go back to that day. It was hard to watch sweet girl yesterday. She was pitiful & puny. She was whiny & just laid there most of the day. If you laid her on a pillow 0n the floor, I think you would have found her in the same place hours later. Her breathing was still fast & I noticed that as the day went on, she was working harder and harder. She was not eating & she barely would drink. She only peed twice all day. She just wasn't Kinsley Anne. It was scary. She wasn't responding to breathing treatments or Tylenol, so as soon as we ate supper, we went to the pediatric ER. She got taken back 1st and we didn't realize it but we were in for a LONG night.

After another dose of tylenol, continuous vitals monitoring, chest XRay, blood work, a failed IV, and lots of waiting, we decided ultimately that she had one BAD virus. Her temp was 103 when we arrived, along with rapid breathing with retractions & a heart rate of 170+. At 230am, it finally broke to 100.4, the magic number to let us go home. With a broken fever, came lesser breathing, and a lower heart rate, and gooooood rest (finally) for us all. We left at 430am and our beds never felt so good. We all slept until 1045am.

Today, we thank God for keeping us on our toes enough to recognize that Kinsley Anne needed medical attention & protecting Kinsley Anne from worsening faster than we could get her help. We also ask God for help in keeping her well to give her body a chance to heal and rest. She has been through a lot & we just ask that you would help us pray for that!!

Until Next Time..
Love, Jen
