Mama Jen @ 23+ weeks...

Weeks: 24 weeks Thursday

Cravings: I'm just hungry. Chips & salsa have been tasting extra good, frozen snickers are still a hit, and of course....still eating lots of salad! :)

Any foods you don't want? I still haven't eaten a hamburger in quite a while. I eat ground beef in other ways & do fine, but just don't think hamburgers sound too good right now..

Symptoms? She is so much more active now!! People can easily feel her if they put their hand lightly on my belly & we even have seen my belly move several times when she kicks. Typically, when Kyle puts his hand on my belly, she decides to get sleepy. However, this weekend, she was just dancing everywhere and when he put his hand on my belly, within a second or two, she kicked SO hard. He swears he felt her heel. It was amazing for both of us!!!!

Showing: most definitely. Over the last month, I have really popped out...as has my belly button. I have lovingly nicknamed my belly Pinocchio & my mom likes to pretend that it's a door bell. ha

Bought anything? I did go to the Carter's outlet while in Charleston last weekend. I got a onesie (that matched perfectly with some pants I had previously bought), a long sleeved one piece outfit, and a set of hair bows! One of the outfits is below:

Shopping for anything? I'm sort of casually looking for a few wall hangings for the nursery. I am trying to avoid anything themed (not that there is anything wrong with them) but want a few cute items to hang on the wall. Currently her name is above her bed & above her dresser is kyle & my engagement picture with people's messages from our wedding and a decorative sign saying "All because two people fell in love." There are 2 blank walls & I don't want the nursery overdone but I feel like it's missing a few things.

..And the dad to be? He is excited as he has been this whole time. I don't think that will change. He has, like me, really enjoyed seeing her on ultrasound. It's amazing that she can have so much personality bottled up in her 13 ounce body!

Most recent appointment? 6/29 was my 20 week appointment.

Next appointment? Tomorrow! Nothing major..a 24 week checkup. I'll get to hear Miss Kinsley's precious heartbeat which never gets old. I also hope to get antibiotics. I have been congested for weeks & have actually ran a 99.5 temp for at least a week, vomited once, and just felt yuck. I can't breathe from my nose which has caused a new onset of snoring (sorry Kyle!). I am just ready to breathe again (without the help of Afrin which I am no longer able to use because I exhausted the maximum amt that is safely allowed). Anyway, I will update. I think it's just a sinus infection, but convincing them that I need antibiotics while pregnant might not be easy...

Nursery Picture: So, I have been meaning to post a picture. This one is from my blackberry, but it will give you an idea of colors!! The lamp to the left of the crib is sitting on a filing cabinet which we are going to replace with a nightstand. Unfortunately, there was no exact match for our crib/mattress, but I'm sure we'll find something that looks great. I will post more pictures of the nursery from an actual camera :)

Onto non-pregnancy things..
  • Kyle & I have been so busy! We were in Charleston 2 weekends ago for a wedding & it was amazing. Emily looked absolutely gorgeous & I loved all of the details that she put together. Emily loves ruffles so her wedding dress & the bridesmaids dresses had ruffles & were beautiful. The groomsmen (Kyle one of them) wore tan suits, brown loafers, and Lilly Pulitzer bowties. They looked so handsome!!! :) The rehearsal dinner was on Shem Creek, the ceremony was at the Summer Chapel on the Citadel campus, & the reception was at the Daniel Island Club. I must say one of the funniest parts of the wedding was the groomsmen's trip down the aisle to the alter. As soon as they took their first step into the aisle (the point where the wedding planner couldn't stop them), they slapped on these costume mustaches. It got everyone giggling. They all wore them up to greet Dave (the groom) and then once they all were standing at the alter, they took them off so that they wouldn't ruin Emily's pictures. Emily was quite a good sport about it when she heard what they did and just laughed at them...it honestly doesn't surprise me in the least with that funny group of guys. Aside from the wedding, I also did a little shopping, of course we made a stop at the market downtown, and we got to eat at Fleet's Landing as we almost always do. Being back in Charleston is so nice now that Kyle is out of school & has no duties to attend to.
  • We actually did sit outside like the picture above. It was quite hot, but the breeze off of the river was nice & we got to enjoy the view. I highly recommend stopping here for a bite to eat if you are in town!
  • This past weekend, we got to spend time with my family! My parents decided to do something different this year & spend 1 week at a lake & 1 week at a beach. In the interest of trying to make things convenient for my sister & I, they chose to vacation in the Carolinas. This past weekend, they rented a house on Lake Murray. On Saturday, we got into the house, checked out marinas for boat rentals, grocery shopped, and toured a community that my parents are looking at for retirement. Then, we ate in downtown Columbia at the Liberty Tap Room. It was great but the portions were enormous!! Kyle even brought leftovers home...which never happens! Sunday, we rented a brand new pontoon boat and enjoyed an entire day out on the lake. It was very hot & quite humid, so we loved being able to jump into the water every 1-2hours. It stunk to have to say bye to my parents & Nanny Sunday night, but Kyle made it a point to say, "when have we ever been able to say 'See you next weekend!'" I hope one day in the not so distant future, we'll all live close together so that we can see each other more. This coming weekend's adventure is a trip to Surfside Beach.
  • Update on Kyle's grandmother, Nene (said like Ninny): She spent much of last week down at MUSC being evaluated & consulting with multiple people for a heart transplant. Basically, they were trying to see if she was a good candidate. We don't have any answers yet as to whether she will be put on the list or not, but hopefully we will hear back soon. I just hope that talking to those people put her mind at ease as to what the process might entail. I know that living in Charleston for a few months if she had the procedure done would not be optimal, but I guess you do what you have to do!
  • Nate Update: His services are this weekend & I unfortunately do not think I will be flying up to see everyone. I pray that these services are filled with love & laughter, remembering all of the good times we had together. I am still working on the blog post in his memory. I find it hard to accept the fact that he is now gone forever from Earth but I'll get it together one of these days. Just be patient with me! :)
Until next time..
Love, Jen

Mama Jen @ 21.5 weeks...

Weeks: 21.5+ weeks

Cravings: can't say I'm craving much this week. I'm just hungrier in general! I drink tons of water. Oh, and I crave air conditioning..does that count?? :)

Any foods you don't want? I haven't really wanted a hamburger (that I started eating 2 years ago), and that's all that I can think of not wanting to eat! haha this could be a problem..

Symptoms? She's the karate kid! She moves around all of the time & man, does this girl have personality as evidenced by the ultrasounds I've had (more to come on that below). Kyle is convinced she's a mama's girl because every time he lays a hand on my belly to feel her moving, she keeps really still. Then, he takes his hand off and you can see my belly move. It's the funniest thing. The people at work think maybe he has a calming effect on her..let's hope!

Showing: yes & so is the outty belly button! But I love my pregnant belly & hopefully the outty is just for the next few months!

Bought anything? I haven't really bought anything that I can think of. Truthfully, I don't need to!!

I have received so many generous gifts! My parents hosted a baby shower/4th of July picnic at their house this past weekend. It was so amazing to get to see family & some family friends. Below are some of the items I have received (in addition to burp cloths, tons of SO CUTE clothes, bibs [and even one by my Nanny that has Kinsley's name sewn on it!], socks, shoes, monogrammed bloomers, blankets, swimsuits, grocery cart cover, sun dome, diaper genie, etc.) Kinsley Anne is one lucky little girl!!

Below is the Chicco Cortina Travel System- Discovery. Given by my grandparents:
Below is the cherry Eddie Bauer high chair. Given by the Duncans:

Below is the crib we bought ourselves, along with the dresser that is to the left of the crib in this picture...and no, this is not the nursery in our house:

More pictures of gifts/baby items to come!!

Shopping for anything? Currently I can't say that I am .. Kinsley, Kyle, and I are so blessed to have people in our life that have been SO generous to her!!

..And the dad to be? He is excited as he has been this whole time. I don't think that will change. He has, like me, really enjoyed seeing her on ultrasound. It's amazing that she can have so much personality bottled up in her 13 ounce body!

Most recent appointment? 6/29 was my 20 week appointment. It started off with ultrasound & we got to see all the little parts of her body. Up on the screen, it looks like she is big enough to be born, but in reality she is still under the 1lb mark. She is on track, however, to be born somewhere in the 11/12/10-11/18/10 range. She has the most perfect beating heart that structurally is just the way it should be! After rotating through NICU (neonatal ICU) & PICU (pediatric ICU), this put my heart at ease! Her stomach, kidneys, skull, and brain are all perfectly formed & developing. She has 5 fingers & 5 toes. She is seriously everything I've ever dreamed of. It's amazing to see when you're only halfway through your pregnancy.

Regarding her personality, she was sleeping during part of the ultrasound and the tech needed her to move (because she was sleeping with her hands up by her ears & they were in the way of the profile picture the tech wanted). Well, it took probably 10 minutes to wake her up and when she finally woke up, she was as mad as a hornet. She was flailing those little arms & kicking those little legs with all of her might. I guess she takes after her mama when it comes to sleeping! :) Then, when the tech asked if we wanted more "girl part" pictures, Kinsley kindly crossed her legs. Her daddy was proud of her!!!!!

Next appointment? 7/27 for my 24 week checkup..I just can't believe that I'm almost at the end of my 2nd trimester!

Onto non-pregnancy things..
  • I had a birthday last week & we celebrated so much..it was fun! Having little Kinsley wake me up in the morning with her kicks was the best birthday gift. On my birthday, we went up to Columbus, NC to eat at Larkin's Grill & I had such a yummy crab cake sandwich. The next night, Kyle took me to my favorite..Olive Garden. I tried out a new entree that they are featuring...crab and shrimp ravioli...YUMMMMM!!! I can't wait to go again. Then, my sister came up Friday night & on Saturday we went to the lake during the day, Fuddrucker's for supper, and Frankie's Fun Park Saturday night. It was my first visit to Frankie's and it was so much fun! We played laser tag, drove go karts, and played arcade game. I can't wait to make a return trip. Katy traveled safely back home on Sunday and we can't wait to see her again soon! She brought her 6month old black lab puppy, Tillman (named after Clemson's clock tower). Bowen played his heart out with Tillman and still has not stopped looking for his buddy.
  • Kyle and I are headed to Charleston Friday for a wedding that Kyle is in. David & Emily are getting married (David went to the Citadel and worked with Kyle at Fluor). We are so very excited & Emily will be SUCH a beautiful bride...pictures will follow in the next post.
  • Kyle's grandmother (his father's stepmom) is going to MUSC to be worked up for a heart transplant. She will be in doctor's appointments Monday-Wednesday next week, so pray for her to keep up a hopeful spirit because these few days will be taxing on her body.
  • I am working on a blog post full of memories & friend's thoughts on Nate Henn. He was such a loyal friend to me in high school & beyond, into college and adulthood. He has been working with a non-profit organization in California & traveling cross-country, and on my birthday, he wished me a happy birthday and also found out that I was pregnant. He was SO excited. He said that we needed to catch up soon...and that was the last I heard from him. It is breaking my heart to think of his life being cut short that way but he lived out his dream & died living such a passionate life. Please continue your prayers for his family..his little brother was in a plane crash on his way to be with his family in NC yesterday afternoon but is OK. The pilot passed away, so they have been under immeasurable amounts of stress. I can't fathom their pain. Please just pray. More on this whole situation to come...
Until next time..
Love, Jen

**Kinsley Anne, WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

Nate Henn

Please pray for the family of Nate Henn, a great friend from Delaware whom I went to high school with. He was a loyal young man who would have dropped anything to help out where he could. And that is actually what he was doing when he was killed yesterday. I will do a full post on this later today.

RIP Nate - You will be missed by SO many but I find strength in knowing that you died living passionately & that you are in a far better place enjoying peace & a healed body.
